Championship show this year, what a great show it was, and we will be returning next year. We wish all our members who have not enjoyed the best of health this year a speedy recovery and hope to see you at our shows next year. Two people in particular, our President David Mason and our Section one Judge, John Fletcher. As John as unable to judge, We returned to the ballot and our Chairman Robert Murphy MBE was next in line, Neill moving to section one, and Robert judging the youngsters and BIS. The auction rabbits posted on the website were ever increasing, some real quality being posted.
Off to Uttoxeter to pen on the Friday, we arrived just after 3 and Dave Fisher was already there, pens up in no time, thick layer of shavings, pen numbers on and the first few rabbits were penned. Deb and I stayed at the venue to welcome the Friday travellers, then we were off to enjoy a lovely meal and share our thoughts about the weekend.
Back at the Hall on Saturday morning, rabbits checked, a brilliant bacon sandwich, we were set up for the day. The show hall was a buzz with excitement and anticipation, auction pens filling up nicely, and thank goodness, only a few rabbits had changed sex or moved from u5 to adult in 3 days since the entries closed so only a few tweaks needed by Deb to the paperwork. Robert welcomed everyone to the show, and we were off. It wasn’t long before our judges, Neill (Sections 1 and 2) Joe (Sections 3 and 4) and Robert sorting the young support show and the BIS in the ASS later in the day.
Thanks to all those who payed their 2016 subs, yearbook adverts, bought badges, hanging basket brackets, and the newer additions to our merchandise, show aprons, heat lamps, dwarf profiles and 2016 calendars. We will be at Harrogate if you have not got yours already. Remember, all our merchandise is on the website, for you to order and pay via PayPal.
Neill and Joe worked through them with professional efficiency, the winners beginning to emerge, Robert had finished his youngsters.
There was a buzz of excitement around the auction. Many thanks to everyone for their donations of such beautiful dwarfs.. The donors receive 50% of the sale price , 50% going to the club. Although there are quite a few exhibitors who donate the full amount to the club. I am amazed by the generosity of the people who offer such wonderful stock, and by the people who buy them, knowing they are supporting the club. An earlier start of 12.30 was welcomed by all, ably assisted by Lucie Wheal recording details of the buyers, Nigel posing (the dwarfs), Frank Crewe fetching and and carrying. Lucie took on the role of treasurer and presented Deb and I with almost £1000 profit for the club, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Results were in , Best in the under 5 show Nigel Atkinson with a lovely Marten sable doe, Nicola Somers winning the Team Class with three brilliant blacks, Emily Underwood Best Junior with a stunning Himalayan, and then the big one, BIS. 20 CC winners on the table, and it was the Black Otter of Geoff Wells that came out on top, massive congratulations Geoff
Trophy presentations followed then the AGM. I really good discussion followed each of the points raised, many thanks to everyone for their contribution, full details in the 2016 yearbook.
Back at the hall for 7.30, for day two. Our format of two separate shows on the two days works well, allowing people who cannot stay for the weekend the chance to show on either day, although we always want everyone to stay for the weekend. Our President David Mason had chosen Laura Fox and Lucy Wheal to judge, they were both really looking forward to it.
It was really great to see so many people chatting about dwarfs, taking lots of photos and videos, lunchtime came and so did the results, Laura and Lucy were still speaking after joint judging, Nigel REW and Marten Sable were the last two standing, his REW taking the honours.
The day was drawing to a close, trophies presented, thanks to Angela and George Moss, our trophy stewards, rabbits boxed, and then it was time to clear up. We can’t thank people enough for all their help, many hands certainly do make light work. All going our separate ways, but I bet we were all taking about the same thing, What a great weekend!
We will be back to do it all again next year, November 5 and 6, get it in your diaries, or should I say the calendar on your Smartphone.
Thanks for all your messages of support, Deb and I enjoy every minute of being secretaries of the best rabbit club in the world, well almost every minute!
